Interesting facts about Obregonia

Benefits and Uses

Obregonia is also known as a “Peyote” because it has been used by Tarahumara people as a substitute for the real Peyote (Lophophora williamsii or Lophophora diffusa).
Lophophora is a genus of only two species – Lophophora williamsii and Lophophora diffusa, commonly known as Peyote. These species contain psychoactive alkaloids, such as mescaline, that are used for their psychedelic effects, but has a long history with Native Americans for its ritualistic and medicinal purposes.
Obregonia contains alkaloids similar to those of the genus Lophophora. Many of these alkaloids have psychotropic effects, but the amounts of these alkaloids are usually so small as to be insignificant.
