Solidago, also known as Goldenrod, is a genus of more than 100 species of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae. Goldenrods are usually herbaceous perennials native to North America.
These sun-loving plants have long and slender stems with spiky tooth-like parts, and tiny golden-yellow flowers that bloom in thick clusters. Solidago could be a good choice for the back of a garden bed.

The genus name is derived from the Latin word“Solido”, which means “to heal”, “to safe”, “to make whole”, in reference to the supposed healing properties of these plants.

Regardless of well known myth, Goldenrods don’t aggravate allergy.
No one can be allergic to Goldenrod pollen because Goldenrods are pollinated by insects, while only wind-pollinated plants can cause allergic reactions. Actually, another plant called Ragweed is usually responsible for such allergies because it blooms at the same time.
